SUMMARY:Dispositions for Joyful Learners\, with David Gilkes - Auckland
DESCRIPTION:Monday 15 July\, 3:00-6:00pm\nAUT Millennium\, Rosedale\nTāmaki Makaurau Auckland\n \n \n \n \n \n $120.00 per person\, including light refreshments \n \n Click here to download a flyer to print and share\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dispositions matter. We know that the attitudes and habits of mind we bring to situations are crucial for lifelong learning. Curiosity\, empathy\, problem solving\, creativity\, collaboration\, and risk-taking are just some of the dispositions we see children embodying each day. Looking through the lens of dispositions\, along with big ideas and concepts\, help us as educators to stretch thinking and co-design learning experiences with children which are joyful\, authentic\, and engaging. \nSo how do we purposefully notice\, respond\, and plan for dispositions? What dispositions do we need as adults who work alongside the thinking\, researching child? And what environmental contexts might support dispositions? Through sharing stories from practice\, and opportunities for discussion\, David will reconnect us with the importance of reflecting on ‘what’s worth knowing’ and embracing joyful possibilities. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n David Gilkes has been involved in early years education in Australia for 30 years\, the majority of this time working as a teacher alongside 4 and 5 year old children and their families. In 2014\, David was awarded a National Excellence in Teaching Award for Innovation in Early Childhood. He has been Director of an Early Learning Centre in Canberra and an Early Years Network Leader in the Tasmanian Department of Education. David spent eight years as convener of the Tasmanian Reggio Emilia Network\, part of the Reggio Emilia Australia Information Exchange. He has participated in numerous study tours to Reggio Emilia\, as well as Forest Schools in Denmark. David now works full time as an Education Consultant and considers himself a lifelong\, curious learner and a proud wobbler of thinking.

SUMMARY:The Promise of Play: Tauranga
DESCRIPTION:The Promise of PlayLorraine SandsWednesday 17 July\, 6:30-8:30pm“Play: How it shapes the brain\, opens the imagination\, and invigorates the soul”I share Stuart Brown’s book title with you because it gives such a visual interpretation of the way play grows a child’s brain\, builds empathy\, fosters social learning and generates creativity and innovation. Alison Gopnik’s comments are challenging too. “Our job is not to shape our children’s minds; it is to let those minds explore all the possibilities that the world allows”.Teachers’ practise that honours free play honours the aspirations of Te Whāriki as we are all asked to enable agentic children to have choices about what to learn\, when\, and with whom. This workshop provides practical examples of how to design environments for authentic free play to unfold. We will explore how to use Learning Stories to analyse the dispositions and working theories that are strengthened when children immerse themselves in play. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n A wide range of topics presented from 6:30-8:30pm!\nClick here to go back to the full series \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing.
